June Newsletter 2021

Jul 07, 2021
What a great month it has been, the weather has lifted our spirits with many of us getting to enjoy staycations while shops have reopened, and outdoor dining has brought much needed positive atmosphere back to society. We are on our way with a few hiccups still causing concern.

As you know each month, we provide a list of potential Accounting & Finance roles for you. This month has brought many new potential roles at all levels so if you’re interested, please get in touch with Rachel Tubridy or Gary Cronin for more info. Also why not enter our monthly competition to be in with a chance to win €100 voucher – see bottom of newsletter for more info.

Interview Series…
For this month’s much loved ‘Interview Series’ we have the wonderful Aoife Ryan. Aoife trained with JPA Brenson Lawlor before working and growing her career with a number of very reputable companies including Sandvik and Linesight. Aoife talks about what shaped her career and who inspires her – we love that bit the most! Check out the interview right here!

In the news…
Although the Government has implemented a very successful vaccine rollout, indoor hospitality has being postponed (again!).  This is very bad news for so many businesses and staff across the country.  Our hearts go out to each and everyone of them.  On my own staycation (Dingle) we noticed many pubs & restaurants closed and feel many might not open again unfortunately.

We have one million people fully vaccinated and over 3.68 million doses given which is fantastic and will allow the following on the 5th of July…
  • Indoor training and exercise can resume in pods of up to 6 people.
  • Indoor events can have up to 50 people attend in groups of 6 people. Larger venues can have up to 100 in attendance with strict public health measures in place
  • Outdoor events can have up to 200 in attendance. Larger outdoor venues with capacity of 5000 or more can have up to 500 in attendance
  • Wedding receptions can have up to 50 people attend
  • First communions, confirmations and baptisms may take place
The new normal!
PeopleSource’s ‘Tipping Point’ survey found that 80% of employees would leave their job if they were not granted a hybrid working model from their employers. Further to this, Irish Times have reported that 40% of Irish employees are ready to resign in the next year from their roles with the US seeing more resignations in April than ever in their history. It will be an interesting few months, here's the Irish Times article to find out more.

4-day working week…
OMG, we’re signing up!  Last week we saw the launch of a Global pilot programme that puts in place a 4-day working week and Ireland is participating.  Lots of government supports seem to be available, so this article is definitely worth a read. This will be part of the rapidly growing 'better4everyone' campaign. If you are signing up, have signed up or are in a company where you are already working a 4 day week, we’d love to hear your feedback.
The six-month experiment will test the benefits with the aim of delivering consistent output with no loss of pay and the programme promising it can deliver positives for both employers and employees.

In TV entertainment…
Love Island is back on our screens after a hiatus. The show will run over an 8-week period with hopeful singletons looking to match up and win the €100,000 prize. It’s always an entertaining watch! Also, over the last 2 weeks I’ve indulged in Clarkson’s Farm on Amazon Prime and it’s a must watch. The show follows Jeremy Clarkson working a 1000-acre farm in his hometown after he bought it last year. There are some real characters involved in the 8-part series and a one for all the family to watch. Here’s a trailer for it (excuse the pun!)

Hemingway on BBC 4 – a eight-part documentary on the famous author, sounds like it might be worth a watch, if Love Island is your anthesis of a great show.

But Mare of Easttown is the winner this month for best show!

In sport…
Euro 2020 Football Tournament is at the last 16 stage with entertaining and high scoring games bringing the tournament to life. Favourites France were beaten by Switzerland on Monday night while England won a tight affair, finally getting the monkey off their backs.  Let’s hope for more cracking games over the next two weeks. Our bet is on Italy – just sayin’, you heard it here first.

In GAA, championship has started in both codes with Clare convincingly beating a much-fancied Waterford side while Donegal ran out easy winners against Down in Ulster Football. This weekend will see most teams in action with 5,000 spectators allowed in Croke Park for the Leinster Semi Finals. I wish I could be there.

Tour de France started last week, what about that spectator knocking over the peloton when she held out her cardboard sign for the TV cameras. It caused 21 serious injuries with 1 cyclist having to retire from the race. Organisers and teams are now looking to sue her but have yet to find her.  Do you know who she is?!!!

PS
If you’re putting on your ‘out of office’, why not make it a bit more personal and fun.  You’ll be surprised with the responses you’ll get.  Say where you’re going or what you’re planning to do while away.  It seems to have more impact as senders really understand you are not contactable and at the same time get to you know a bit better.

Competition time…
Each month we ask our readers to answer a question for a chance to win €100 One4all voucher

Last month we asked:
Do you know your company’s working from home policy post-Covid? Yes/No
No – 66%
Yes – 33%
This is in line with our own survey held in April 2021.  There is a lot of work to do in this area by companies to allow their employees to start planning.

Our winner this month is Charlene Flattery! Congratulations and we’ll be in touch.

Our question this month:
Would you enter a recruitment process if the company asked you to work in the office 5 days per week? Yes/No

Enter
here to be in with a chance to win this month’s prize of a €100 One4All voucher.

The market has been growing steadily over the past month and here are a few live roles which might be of interest…
