May 2019 newsletter

May 01, 2019

Hi all,

Lot’s happened in May and we’re heading into an even busier June. I hope you’re all set for the long weekend and have something exciting planed.

In the news…

The Spice Girls made a triumphant return in front of 75,000 fans in Croke Park for their first gig in seven years. Ginger, Baby, Sporty and Scary were reunited. I hope those of you who attended had a great night.

With the summer months just around the corner here is an Irish Times list of some of the top festivals and gigs taking place around the country. My top three would be Fleetwood Mac which I haven’t managed to secure a ticket yet, Independence Parks concert and the Foo Fighters.

All over the news in the last few weeks was the local elections. The national voter turnout was 50.2% and Fianna Fáil received the highest number of first preference votes with 26.9%. Fine Gael got 25.3% of first preference votes. Independent candidates got 19.6% of first preference votes. The percentage of first preference votes for other political parties were as follows: Sinn Féin, 9.5%; Labour Party, 5.7%; Green Party, 5.5%; Social Democrats, 2.3%; Solidarity-People Before Profit, 1.9%; Independents4Change 0.5% and Others, 2.8%.

While on politics, an emotional Theresa May announced she will resign as Conservative Party leader on June 7, triggering a rapid-fire battle to replace her as Tory leader and Prime Minister before Britain’s scheduled departure from the EU on October 31.

Finally, we couldn’t leave our news section without mentioning the whole Maria Bailey scandal. While she may have been about her claim against the Dean Hotel for damages from her swing fall and her RTE Radio interview didn’t seem to help at all, the unrelenting bad press has potentially gone a bit too far in some cases. In the end of the day she does have a family and her own personal life which I’m sure at this stage has been greatly affected. Hopefully lessons have been learnt.

In Sport…

On Saturday night Katie Taylor will hope to secure victory over Delfine Persoon which would make her the undisputed world lightweight champion. This would be a truly magnificent achievement and if secured she will go down as one of Irelands greatest sports people of all time if not the greatest. We would highly recommend watching the film called ‘Katie’ ahead of the fight on Saturday. We have shared the link to the trailer. https://youtu.be/5zTNvfvD8pw

Also, a very important match takes place on Saturday evening when Liverpool FC take on Tottenham Hotspur FC in the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid. This promises to be a very exciting final. As an Arsenal Fan I’m still not sure who I prefer to win!

Finally, the G.A.A is back in full swing. A special mention must go to Roscommon in their victory over a fancied Mayo side. Dublin and Tyrone seem to be the two teams going best in the Football championship. I expect Kerry to get going once the Munster championship gets to the business end. In the hurling Tipperary, Cork and Clare have had a great start to the year but I’m sure Limerick will have a big say yet. In Leinster Kilkenny have started well and will be delighted not much talk about them has been done yet. Wexford, Dublin and Galway seem to be the trio fighting it out for the last two places.

Survey…

Last month we have our annual survey, your support in completing it was greatly appreciated. Our winner of the €500 voucher is Kris Tuffy, Financial Accountant with United Drug Ireland! We will share the results in next month’s newsletter and once again thanks for your response.

Competition…

Last month we asked what’s the most likely factor for you to consider a move from your current role? Progression came in first at 50%, followed by work life balance at 30%, salary 10% and better location 10%. Congratulations to Josephine Ryan who is the winner this months’ prize. Josephine, we’ll be in touch!

We are pleased to continue our Spring “Refer A Friend” Campaign for 2019. This quarter, a €250 one for all voucher is available. All you have to do to win is to refer a Finance candidate to us whom we go on to place – simple (there are a few T’s & C’s but nothing ridiculous).

That’s it for this month. We leave you with a selection of our live positions – please reach out if you would like to hear about the market and don’t forgot to follow us on our LinkedIn company page to see all our latest roles - https://www.linkedin.com/company/peoplesource-ie/

Remember…

Some of our roles are confidential for a variety of reasons so if you don’t see anything that takes

your fancy feel free to give me a call. If you have only started thinking about your next move

send me a private note here and I will contact you directly.

That’s it from us this month. Have a great bank holiday all!

Jack.
