Newsletter – February 2021

Wow, that was fast, goodbye February and hello March, our year anniversary of working from home!  We hope all the loved-up couples were spoiled rotten and enjoyed the romance of Valentines.  Now we have lots of positivity to look forward to from longer evenings to schools reopening to vaccinations for all by the end of June!  There truly is light at the end of the tunnel.

In the news…

There is rumour we will be allowed move beyond 5km in April and vaccinations ramping up to 250,000 per week from April onwards this will have a huge knock-on effect for summer.  Let’s start planning, but you’d need to get in quick, I hear staycation holiday destinations are booking up fast!   Also, what are you going to do with all that free time now that many of you will only have one job to do with students return to the classroom – no doubt it will be a big relief for a lot of you double jobbing!

PeopleSource was once again delighted to sponsor ‘The Investnet Finance Leadership Summit 2021’ which took place yesterday February 25th with great success. The half day virtual show had some very interesting speakers including Peter Quinn (CFO – An Post), Patrick Cooney (CFO EMEA – Kerry Group) and our very own Rachel Tubridy. I would encourage all to attend the Finance Summit 2022.  It’s a great networking opportunity along with interesting panel discussions & presentations on the future of finance.

PeopleSource also sponsored and attended the Chartered Accountants Ireland ‘Young Professionals’ event last week with Eoin McGee - from How to Be Good with Money, who gave us tips on how to save and invest better, as well as advice for those of you looking to buy your first (or second!) home! Eoin is also brilliant to follow on Instagram as he shares some really top tips!

Here are a few other suggestions to help ease the lockdown woes…

With lockdown restrictions said to ease in April, let’s try look forward to our summer and what better way than organising staycations. Here are some suggestions that aren’t the usual:

  1. Dunmore East – A hidden gem for the South East, there is lots to do in small Waterford town. From boasting one of Europe’s largest inflatable waterpark, the beautiful 6km cliff walk and the fresh seafood restaurants it is somewhere worth visiting.
  2. Shannon Cruise – The charm of cruising holidays on the Shannon River lies with the towns and villages that range from Tipperary to Fermanagh. The boats range from 2-7 berths and are a very reasonable price.
  3. Kilkenny City – The medieval city has a high number of tourists each year due to it’s impressive history and vibrant atmosphere. Highlights of the city would be the Smithwick’s tour, Kilkenny Castle Park and the nightlife - It’s one for all ages.
  4. Campervan tours – Becoming more popular, I did this 2 years ago and I could not recommend it high enough. We toured from Dublin – Belfast – Derry – Donegal – Westport – Galway City. We loved the flexibility of it all! The campervans tend to book up quickly so get booking. This is a great app to find good camper parking spots.

If you have any recommendations, please do let us know by emailing us and we can share these next time.

With the new TikTok phenomenon seeming to be food recipes here are three quick recipes to do over the next few weeks:

Chicken Alfredo Bake -

Oatbowl -

Brushetta –

In sport…

The Six Nations is underway, and it hasn’t been great viewing for Irish supporters. After a hard-fought battle from the 14 men of Ireland they narrowly lost out to Wales. France was again too much of a stern test and the free-flowing game of France exposed defensive weaknesses. Let’s hope we gain some experience for our younger players in the upcoming games.

The 2021 GAA season has yet to hear a plan for the upcoming year with rumours circulating that the League will resume from May. This will once again push club championship to September/October – the 98% of GAA players around the country once again losing out!

Ireland's largest ever team for a major indoor championship will travel to Poland next week for the European Indoors, with 2019 medallists Mark English and Ciara Mageean carrying some of the best hopes of a medal among the 24-strong squad. Phil Healy and Nadia Power recently breaking national records should show for a promising championship for Ireland.

One year on from the first Covid lockdown…

As we look back on a year like no other, we reflect on what we learned as individuals. As recruiters, we see more candidates looking at their careers and what they want from both their role and company.  There are certain sectors people really want to move into e.g. sustainable products, renewable energy (we have two roles in this space live now, so see our lastest jobs section), international experience (we have roles in this space too!).  Is this something you have done/noticed? People have also taken up new hobbies or completed further learning.  In our workplace, people have taken up guitar and piano and others upskilled with online courses. We’d love to hear your wild and wonderful uptakes during the past year?

Competition time…
Each month we ask our readers to answer a question for a chance to win €100 One4all voucher. It would be a nice pick me up coming into the Easter break!

Last month we asked:

What do you miss most from pre-covid/pre-lock down?

With a variation of answers it seemed we mostly miss family and friends along with a wild night out! Our winner this month is Dijana Catic, congratulations Dijana we’ll be in touch to organise your prize.

Our question this month:

When the vaccine is ready for you to take it, will you take it? Yes/No

The random winner will receive €100 One4All voucher. Enter here to be in with a chance to win.

We have been super busy this month and if you would like regular updates follow our LinkedIn company page -

If you are considering a move or would just like to find out where we believe the finance recruitment market is at, give us a call.  In the meantime, here is a sample of live roles which might be of interest…

Finally – if you refer a friend to PeopleSource and we place you will be given a €250 gift voucher! Not bad for helping a friend!

Thanks,

Gary
