Hello…

I bet you’re glad that month is over. It sounds like you were all up to your eyes in month and year end. What a difference a year makes? This time last year we were keeping warm against the Beast from the East and this year we are swimming in the sea! This time last year our men’s rugby team were flying through their games, while this year it’s like walking in treacle. With that disappointing loss to England behind us and wins on the board against Scotland & Italy we still require a minor miracle to retain this year’s 6 Nations, but miracles do happen!

Speaking of the 6 Nations, we are delighted to once again sponsor, the Chartered Accountants Leinster Societies’ Rugby lunch next week (Friday 8th March) in aid of The IRFU Charitable Trust. It will be a great event with a lively (nsfw) panel of commentators.

In the news…

Not much else has been talking about this month but the cost of the Children’s Hospital scandal. As the country is stunned at the enormous price tag of €1.73 billion – which could rise to over €2bn - four times more than what it was originally meant to cost, the question still lingers: How did we get this so badly wrong? Should competent accountants have stepped in?!

A day off! – As the one national holiday that is celebrated in more countries around the world than any other, St. Patrick’s Day is the day when everyone wants to be Irish. I for one will be attending the club finals in Croke Park as I have a few friends playing in the hurling final between Ballyhale Shamrocks of Kilkenny and St Thomas of Galway. But if dressing up, drinking Guinness or whatever else might catch your imagination please see below the Irish Times top 10 things to do for Paddy’s day. https://www.irishtimes.com/news/consumer/10-frugal-but-fun-ways-to-celebrate-st-patrick-s-day-1.1725773

Internationally…

The Oscars - The 2019 Academy Awards took place on Sunday, February 24. The awards had no host after Kevin Hart stepped down amid controversy over homophobic jokes he’d made in the past, leading to the first host-free Oscars ceremony since 1989. It wouldn’t be News if President Trump didn’t appear somewhere. He declared a national emergency in order to bypass Congress and build additional barriers along the US-Mexico border. If all goes to plan, the roughly 3,200-kilometer-long (2,000-mile) wall will stretch from the Gulf of Mexico in Texas to the Pacific Ocean over six diverse and separate landscapes, presenting the potential for an ecological disaster. Many of us laughed when the idea of this wall was first mentioned, its scarily becoming a bit more realistic now.

Firstly, President Trump didn’t get the money for his wall and now his ex-lawyer Michael Cohen has called him a racist, conman and a cheat, but will this make any difference to Teflon Trump? It’s almost as good a House of Cards, but this is real, which makes it not so much fun to watch.

First Dates…

We are addicted to the show First Dates here in PeopleSource and although we might be a bit late for Valentine’s day, here is a list of my eight favourite dates to do. We have included two of these as prizes for this month’s competition. I would love to hear from you and any other date suggestions you would recommend.

1. Ericsson Skyline Tour Croke Park

2. Viking Splash Tour – I’ve not done this yet, but it’s on the list!

3. Crazy Golf

4. Dublin Zoo

5. Howth Head Cliff Walk or Killiney Hill

6. The International Comedy Club

7. Skillszone

8. Indoor Rock Climbing at the Wall Sandyford

Competition:

Last month we asked how many of you have already broken your new year’s resolutions? 80% said Yes and 20% No. I hope those 20% are still holding on and not giving in to temptation! Congratulations to Niamh McColgan who is the winner this month. Niamh, we’ll be in touch!

Our question this month is –

On which day of the week are you most productive?

· Monday

· Tuesday

· Wednesday

· Thursday

· Friday

Respond here to be in with a chance to win this month’s prize.

Two tickets for the Ericsson Skyline Tour at Croke Park AND two tickets for the Viking Splash Tour.

We are pleased to continue our Spring “Refer A Friend” Campaign for 2019. This quarter, a €250 one for all voucher is available. All you have to do to win is to refer a Finance candidate to us whom we go on to place – simple (there are a few T’s & C’s but nothing ridiculous).

That’s it for this month. We leave you with a selection of our live positions – please reach out if you would like to hear about the market and don’t forgot to follow us on our LinkedIn company page to see all our latest roles - https://www.linkedin.com/company/peoplesource-ie/

Thanks

Jack
