September 2019 newsletter

Sep 30, 2019

Hi all,

It’s hard to believe we’re already three-quarters of the way through 2019. September has brought us some great weather and plenty of major talking points. It has been a busy month in world news – in the US we watch to see who is going to take on President Trump in 2020, Boorish Johnson continues to baffle, Greta Thunberg is making waves and what is happening in Japan?

In the news…

On a lighter note it’s not a Friday night without the Late Late Show and we’re glad it’s back. With over one million viewers on the first show of the series it seems like you are too! There have already been some cracking guests including the love-island contestants and GAA Dublin Football five in a row winner Dean Rock along with great Irish music from Dermot Kennedy and Sinead O’Connor.

This September we saw 10,000 people turn out for the climate change protest in Merrion Square, Dublin and millions across the globe, to become one of the World’s largest protests. It’s fantastic to see people fighting for their future.   Let’s hope we will see major changes as a result.  We were sent this video which provides some suggestions!

On September 12th we held our 4th annual CFO event in the Intercontinental Hotel. Our guest speaker this year was Gary McGann – current chairman of Aryzta, Sisk Group, Aon Ireland and Flutter. Gary spoke openly about his career and when asked about his interview tips, he suggested the best way to get to know someone is to spend time with them.  A company even interviewed his wife at one point!

Sadly, our very own Jack Fogarty is leaving us this week for the desert glam of Dubai.  Jack took to recruitment like the proverbial duck to water.  He’s been a joy to have around and will be sorely missed.  Thankfully, we are sending him off with a return date clearly marked in the calendar and aim to remind him of this monthly!  Jack – farewell, we want to you back here asap but in the meantime have a ball in Dubai and thank you for all you hard work and contribution to the PeopleSource.ie success.

As you know, Jack is our usual newsletter editor.  The mantle will now be passed over to his colleague Gary Cronin. Talking of moves, Saoirse O’Brien has re-joined the team after maternity leave and it’s great to have her back!

In Sport…

Dublin footballers created history by winning 5-in a row All Irelands with an incredible victory over fierce rivals Kerry. Jim Gavin’s men once again showed their strength in character when pushed to the pin of their collars to get over the line and claim the Sam Maguire once again.  I’ve heard ‘buzzin’ for the dozen’ is their new slogan.

Dublin ladies followed up the very next day with their own 3-in a row all titles with a hard-earned victory over Galway. Will Dublin’s dominance in 2020 continue? I wouldn’t bet against it.

The Rugby World Cup is upon us and in true Irish fashion it’s time to jump on the bandwagon!  Ireland claimed a dominant and controlled victory over Scotland in the first group game but Saturday morning saw an inspired Japanese performance with a 19-12 win for the hosts with the biggest shock of the tournament yet.  If you want time off to watch the match this Thursday, check out this link!

Our very own Rachel Tubridy featured in the Sunday Business Post this week, our annual Tipping Point survey got a mention in relation to Boomerang employees.  Take a look at the article … https://www.businesspost.ie/business/talent-hungry-firms-embrace-boomerang-blueprint-453366
