October Newsletter 2020

Nov 02, 2020

It’s Halloween!  Have you got your costumes ready, your parties booked, your trick or treating routes sorted?  Oh wait, for a moment there I was living in the past!  Yes, Halloween is usually a big deal but like everything else it will be different this year, we hope you enjoy yourselves all the same and make sure to get some Exorcise after eating all the goodies!

Interview Series…
This month we are delighted to introduce Kathy McDermott, Head of Finance at Dixons CarphoneWarehouse UK & Ireland.  ACA & CTA 2011 having trained with KPMG. Kathy gives some great insight into how she progressed her career. Click here to see Kathy's interview.

Show me the money (or not) – we spoke with one new graduate about his ‘onboarding’ experience as he starts his training contract.  He was offered €5,000 to defer, would you have deferred?

We were delighted to sponsor the ACA Young Professionals evening on the 28th October where we heard from the inspirational Joanne O’Riordan.  Don’t forget to join the event next month 19th November, when the topic is ‘social media’.

Our MD Rachel Tubridy did an interview with career coach Aoife Mollin
  – there are lots of tips in here if you are considering a move either externally or internally.  Grab a coffee and take 20 mins out to take a look!

In the news…
Will President Donald Trump win a second term in the White House?
Due to the ongoing pandemic, many states for the first time are opting for in-mail ballot voting with other states using the traditional polling stations.  Biden is currently leading the polls, but the polls have been very wrong before and many experts feel a late surge for Trump will edge him over the line for another term.

For Christmas, we mentioned it last month, but we’ll say it again, please consider supporting locally where possible and here are some ideas of how you can help...
As we have moved back into ‘Level 5’ restrictions, we at PeopleSource don’t want to get too downbeat about it so here are two suggestions to keep you busy over the coming weeks...

For the adults - Wardrobe clear out with a double win! You get to feel more ‘zen’ at home and more importantly, at this time of year support services for the homeless or disadvantaged are looking for clothing donations. You can drop yours at clothes banks all around the country. Several organisations operate them, including Liberty recycling. To find one within your 5km zone check out the link.

For the kids - If your children are budding engineers, then you should check out the James Dyson Foundation. This site has plenty of engineering challenges and ideas, which might inspire your children to be the engineering visionaries of tomorrow!

In sport…
This month we see the return of Intercounty GAA and Rugby which comes as a much-needed distraction. Ireland beat Italy in Six Nations action, but can we do it again in France? Well done to Kerry who won the Gaelic Football Division 1 League final.
Hard luck to Irish Women’s Footballers who unfortunately lost to Ukraine but they get to play in Germany in November, it will be tough but let’s hope they can do it.

Competition time…
Each month we ask our readers to answer a question for a chance to win €100 One4all voucher just in time for Christmas.

Last month we asked:
“With Covid numbers rising rapidly, in your opinion, do you feel Ireland should move back into a more stringent lockdown or do we keep to the current roadmap?”

At the time of this question we were still at ‘Level 2 & 3’. Interestingly, 65% of readers wanted more stringent rules in place.

Our winner this month is Paul Quigley, congratulations Paul we’ll be in touch to organise your prize.

Question this month is –
“Who do you think will win the US Presidential Election?”

Enter here to be in with a chance to win this month’s prize of a €100 One4All voucher.

Continue to stay safe and if we can help in any way, give us a call.

If you would like more regular updates follow our LinkedIn company page -

The market has been growing steadily over the past month and here are a few live roles which might be of interest…

Finally – if you refer a friend to PeopleSource and we place them (there are few T&C’s but nothing too onerous) you will be given a €250 gift voucher! Not bad for helping a friend!

Thanks, Gary
