Interview Series…
We are delighted to hear from Brian Higgins - Brian has built a great career and is now Finance Director of Hidden Hearing. Hidden Hearing are industry leaders in providing tailored and personalised hearing healthcare to people of Ireland and are growing stronger year on year. Check out the interview here...

In the news…
The vaccine rollout has been a massive success with over 50% of the adult population now vaccinated with at least 1 dose. With this, we have seen a much-needed easing of restrictions over the past number of weeks. Outdoor dining and pubs will be introduced from June 7th onwards with guidelines for indoor dining causing a bit of a stir over the past few days. With rules of no live/loud music, limited time slots and bookings required. Are these guidelines too harsh on indoor dining?

With outdoor restaurants resuming from June 7th, The Irish Examiner have compiled a list of 100 restaurants of all counties around the country. It will be great to get out there and support our local restaurants and at this stage, I think we’d all love to get dressed up and enjoy restaurant quality food.

More than 140,000 people across the world participated in Darkness Into Light event to raise funds for suicide prevention charity Pieta. Despite heavy rain and wind in many parts of the country, the charity's fundraised of €6.3m which exceeded all expectations. The support of those who signed up or donated means that Pieta's free crisis helpline will provide 3,500 people 8 hours of free counselling. Pieta employs over 200 qualified therapists, and their services are free to anyone who needs them. More than 22,800 calls and texts were placed to Pieta's free crisis line so far this year. So well done to you all on participating and if any of you that did not donate you can still do it via the link.

4-day working week…
95 years after Henry Ford implemented the 5-day working week, Spain has announced that it will become the World’s first to trial a four-day working week. They hope to try and improve both the company’s bottom line and the work-life balance for employees. Up to 400 companies have signed up for the social experiment. Do you think this could work in Ireland?

Staycations options…
With hotels & B&B’s opening from June 2nd and the unlikeliness of foreign holidays, staycations will be the focus of the summer. "Bookings for July and August 2021 are very positive with 40% being new customers" reports Eilís McDermott of Trident Holiday Homes. We’ve heard the horror stories of weeks away in Kerry quoted for €3,000 so we’ve compiled a list of potential staycations for you that are a little more affordable.

Hodson Bay Hotel - When it comes to fun and exciting things to do for families, you’ll be spoiled for choice at Ireland’s largest lakeside resort near Athlone town. Stretch your legs with a Guided Walking Tour of Athlone or get on your bike to explore the beautiful Old Rail Trail Greenway that is now the longest in Ireland. €100 per night - Highly recommended!

Achill Island – A great option for all ages is Achill Island. Magical sea views, hikes, walks and tourist attractions will give you plenty variety in a place that will bring you back to old Ireland. We priced a house on Airbnb for €1200 over 7 nights for 7 people. Not bad!

Knockrobin Glamping - only a 45-minute drive from Dublin, this is a great option for a 2-3 night stay with great walks, family options all for only €100 per night. Here’s some more quirky options from ‘Irish Road Trip’.

In sport…
Phil Mickelson had an extraordinary victory in the US PGA Championship after becoming the oldest major champion in history at the age of 50 – a sporting achievement that can’t be underestimated. With fans back on the course, Phil was mobbed by spectators as he was about to play his final shot. Epic scenes!

In GAA, we’ve went from famine to feast, intercounty games have resumed and it’s been great! Dublin and Kerry Gaelic Footballers played out a fascinating and tactical battle in Thurles last weekend with the game ending in a draw. While All-Ireland Hurling champions Limerick may be a little concerned with no wins in the League campaign as of yet. It has set us up nicely for an interesting championship over the summer.

Manchester City won the English Premier League title at a cantor and will face rivals Chelsea this Saturday in the Champions League Final. Chelsea have beaten Man City in the last 2 games so it should be interesting viewing. Euro 2020 will start on June 11th with Tukey taking on Italy. Plans to have Wembley at a full capacity of 90,000 will give the world audience hope as
