July Newsletter 2021

Jul 30, 2021
PeopleSource.ie - Newsletter - July 2021

Take a bow July 2021 and congratulations July 21st particularly, you delivered the hottest day of the year so far! Is there any chance of more to come? We can live in hope August? Please? Do it for the long weekend. Just look at these temperatures, poor aul Donegal didn’t get any of the hot action!

Talking of action – this really is the silly season! We’ve seen everything from Gangster Funerals – yes, they are a thing now to Love Island ratings drop by 1 million viewers! My heart is breaking for Millie. Have our viewing tastes changed over Covid? Not really, it was all about the Euro’s, Wimbledon, the Irish Open, the Lions, the Galway races and the Olympics but more on that later.

For four years no Newsletter was complete without a mention of President Trump (remember him) and now for the past 17 months our monthly topic is Covid. Hopefully that will change soon.

We are now at 66% vaccination rate, that’s pretty amazing considering we seemed to have been a bit slow at the start.  The 12 – 15yr old age range will soon be able to avail of the vaccine. Fantastic work by all involved. The next question will be about Covax. How many people do we have to have vaccinated here before we help other less fortunate countries? The World Bank and WHO have a plan - click here.

Are you nervous or looking forward to returning to the office? Either way you’re not alone. The impact on the working environment has been dramatic and an article in the Washington Post from Dec 2020 expects there to be further changes as we return. Check out it’s six predictions for the new work place (some good and some not so good!)

As the recruitment market heats up, if you are hiring or looking for a role, take a look at our latest blog which might help you plan your hiring and/or recruitment strategy - latest blog

We’ve taken the summer off for our interview series, but people seem to really enjoy it. If you are a senior finance professional and have some sage advice about career decisions and want to be our interviewee one month, do contact Rachel Tubridy on 086 662 9674 or email
rtubridy@peoplesource.ie – there’s a craft beer box or a bunch of lovely flowers for your kind effort!

Sport
July not only delivered maximum temperatures, it also delivered maximum sport. Beginning with the Euro’s going to Italy, I believe the PeopleSource newsletter predicted that last month! Quickly followed by Australian Lucas Herbert taking the Irish Open. Wimbledon Ladies singles won by another Australia Ashleigh Barty (world number 1), while Serbian Novak Djokovic (world number 1) takes his 6th Gentlemen’s singles Wimbledon title and ties with Federer and Nadal on a total of 20 grand slams. The Lions won their first test, but have the ‘poked the bear (or Lion)’ and will they Springboks fight back?  I think it will be a tough one. Finally, the Olympics continue for another week and we (Ireland!) have some great success. A massive congratulations to the Irish rowers, Aifric Keogh, Eimear Lambe, Fiona Murtagh & Emily Hegarty, Paul O’Donovan and Fintan McCarthy and boxer Aidan Walsh.

PS
Last month we suggested updating your voice message.
This month, if you are preparing to move roles over the coming months, maximise your exposure by turning on the ‘open to work’ feature on your LinkedIn profile. This will not be visible to people in your company but it will be visible to companies who use a ‘recruiter’ license e.g. Talent Acquisition and Recruitment Consultants. It takes no more than two minutes to complete but it should enhance your job search greatly!

It’s au revoir, not good bye…
Finally, it is with a very heavy heart we say goodbye to Gary Cronin as his heads off to Canada. Gary joined three years ago and has been a fantastic team member – responsible for this newsletter, recruiting and all our web stuff. We will miss him madly (so will his mum) but we wish him all the best and ask him to remember to come back home at some stage.

Competition time…
Each month we ask our readers to answer a question for a chance to win €100 One4all voucher. In June we asked if you would enter into a recruitment process if an employer wanted you in the office five days per week?
25% - Yes
75% - No

And the winner is Niamh Murphy, we'll be in touch!

Our question this month is
Are you taking (or have you taken) an overseas holiday this year?   Yes / No
The winner will be chosen at random and will receive €100 One4All voucher. Enter
here to be in with a chance to win.

If you are considering a move or would like to find out where we believe the finance recruitment market is at, give us a call. In the meantime, here is a sample of live roles which might be of interest (below my signature)…

Thanks, Rachel
