January 2019 newsletter

Welcome back…

Here we go, 2019! January has flown past and the Christmas festivities are a distant memory at this stage. How are your New Year resolutions? Also a distant memory? Not to worry, we can commit again tomorrow – 1st Feb. What does 2019 have in store for you? New career? Overseas travel? New house? Marriage? Babies? We here at PeopleSource predict a very busy year ahead in Finance recruitment, so do get in touch if 2019 is the year for your new career change.

In the news…

2019 is off to a flying start for some, Salesforce has announced 1,500 new jobs over the next five years and establish ‘Salesforce Tower’, following in the footsteps of Power Tower (Paddy Power) and Fruit Tower (Innocent drinks). Facebook announced another 1,000 jobs too. Was anyone lucky enough to hear Sheryl Sandberg speak when she was in Dublin? Did anyone get to the Pendulum Summit to get inspired for the year ahead? Here is a link to the IDA newsroom for more jobs info - www.idaireland.com/newsroom

Met Eireann is predicting the weather to get as cold as -5C this week. Make sure to wrap up over the coming weeks and hopefully we don’t have a repeat visit from the Beast from the East this year. On these dark nights, a night in with Netflix seems to be the order of the day. Have you seen ‘You’ (we found it a bit creepy) or the docuseries on ‘Ted Bundy’? If you have any recommendations, do send them on.

Internationally…

Brexit must get a mention with less than 10 weeks to go before Britain legally leaves the EU. Our guess is the exit date will be extended, and negotiations will continue. No one knows the final outcome but more importantly there seems to be no solutions forthcoming which is a worry!

Trump has managed to temporarily (3 weeks) end the partial government shutdown while he continues to negotiate terms for his famous wall. This always makes for interesting reading and who will blink first? Pelosi v Trump? Who will win, but more importantly how does the average person fair in the crossfire? In fairness, we have plenty of our own issues we need to sort out here with our nurses going on strike!

In Sport…

Golf - Three-time major winner Padraig Harrington has been confirmed as Europe's captain for the 2020 Ryder Cup. Shane Lowry has completed the dream start to 2019 by securing the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship title by a single shot. The Offaly man had made a blistering start to the tournament, ending in a win, his first since 2015. Congratulations Shane!

Rugby - for the first time in the same season, all four Irish provinces have qualified for the European quarter-finals. Munster and Connacht face trips to Edinburgh and Sale respectively, while the Heineken Champions Cup will have its first all-Irish quarter-final since 2012 when Leinster and Ulster clash at the Aviva Stadium.

The Six Nations is about to kick off this weekend and what better way to start than with a home game to our old enemy England. With the World Cup just around the corner and places up for grabs for Japan, it will be interesting to see how the next few weeks pan out.

Finally, in GAA we had the start of the hurling and football leagues at the weekend. All Ireland Hurling Champions Limerick opened with a good win against Wexford and in the football Dublin were undone by a determined Monaghan side up in St Tiernach's Park.

Competition…

Last December we asked will you have a New Year’s resolution for January. 62.5% said yes and 37.5% said no. I hope all who said yes are still committed! Congratulations to Meagan Stack who is the winner this month. Meagan, we’ll be in touch!

On the back of last month’s poll, we want to know how many of you have already broken your new year’s resolutions?

· Yes

· No

Enter here to be in with a chance to win a €100 one for all voucher! Don’t worry if you’ve broken to resolution, you can always start again in February.

We are pleased to launch our Spring “Refer A Friend” Campaign for 2019. This quarter, there is a €250 One4All voucher up for grabs. All you have to do to win is to refer a Finance candidate to us whom we go on to place – simple. There are a few terms & conditions but nothing onerous.

That’s it for this week. We leave you with a selection of our live positions – please reach out if you would like to hear about the market and don’t forgot to follow our LinkedIn company page to hear updates on roles & the market. https://www.linkedin.com/company/peoplesource-ie/

Thanks all for your continued support and here’s to a great 2019. Regards Jack M:086 xxx xxxx
