December Newsletter 2022

Jan 04, 2023

Where did that year go?

2022 started with us getting back to ‘normal’ only to find it was a whole new kind of normal with the ‘cost of living’ increases.  We’ve had the World Cup, a new Taoiseach and poor Micheal Martin never got to meet the US President in person on St Patricks day. The bounce back after Covid caught many businesses by surprise, most notably Dublin airport (and most airports around the world, to be fair). We said a very teary goodbye to Vicky Phelan. We said hello to many more Ukrainians. The UK crowned a new King and went through several Prime Ministers. Free speech v hate speech continues to be a hot topic, what was Jeremy Clarkson thinking?  Elon Musk caused a lot of controversy this year. Roe v Wade was overturned in the US and crypto currency took a hit with the collapse of FTX.

Ireland continues to defy the odds with continued economic growth. Business sentiment remains largely positive and we at PeopleSource can certainly look back on what was an extremely busy year, with no sign of things quietening down any time soon.

We hope you are in the middle of a happy and restful holiday while reading this, that you and yours got whatever your heart desired and are looking forward to an exciting 2023. One person who certainly enjoyed their December was Alex Gorey who was the winner of our year-end draw; normally a €100 One4all voucher, Alex had that bumped up to €600 by virtue of having answered every poll in our newsletter during 2022. Our thanks for the fabulous response we had throughout the year and we hope you continue to participate throughout 2023.

Kick off 2023…….

While you have the head space to think, this is the ideal time to ponder your the goals for 2023. What do you want to achieve personally & professionally? It maybe nothing and you are content just the way you are, which is fabulous, but for those who feel something in their life needs to step up, change, tweak or readjust, this link will help you on your way. Make your 2023 New Year resolutions.

If one of your goals is to do something or visit some place you’ve never been to before, then here are a few suggestions…

  • How well do you know Ireland? This list of 33 places has a lot of hidden treasures for you to visit.
  • Last minute holiday overseas? There are lots of affordable suggestions available.
  • Not into a weekend away and just want an afternoon of fresh air and nice walks.
  • Get along to a cracking rugby game.
  • Tickets tend to sell out quickly at Ireland’s festivals, get in early this year to ensure you don’t miss out.

Entertainment news…..

This is a lovely time to catch up on movies, books & podcasts.

Rotten Tomatoes, always puts a good list of movies together. The list this year has at least three Irish movies - Best movies 2022.

We love a podcast here at PeopleSource, especially when walking. As a result we’ve listened to most of the popular ones already yet, this list has managed to find a few we have yet to listen to – Podcasts 2022. We would also recommend two that we enjoyed this year covering a breadth of topics from the fall of Enron to the Murdoch tapes - British Scandal and American Scandal.

An easy and popular Christmas present - a book! Hopefully you all received one or two this year that will take you to new places without moving! Although here at PeopleSource, we love an audiobook as we are always on the move - Best books of 2022.

Sports roundup: Things got Messi….

Notwithstanding some early shock results, and Morocco making it to the semis, we ultimately ended up with a couple of heavyweights contesting the final. While it’s always a shame to have to decide these major trophies on penalties, at least it came following a nervy 3-3 draw and not a goalless bore. The tournament itself was driven by three big names who experienced contrasting fortunes – Mbappe, the king-in-waiting; Messi, crowning a massive career with the Jules Rimet; and Ronaldo, leaving us memories of a sulking superstar instead of a gifted footballer.

In rugby, Leinster are quick off the blocks in the European Champions Cup, hopefully a great omen for Ireland coming into a World Cup year! Davy Russell has hung up his saddle after an illustrious career but he will always be remembered for his two-in-a-row Grand National wins aboard Tiger Roll – a great podcast on that is available - Tiger Roll the Peoples horse.

Finally here’s a little article you can share with loved ones during the New Year celebrations that’s sure to lead to an interesting debate. It is one person’s opinion of the greatest sports star ever from each of the 32 counties.

PS - Tip of the month

Build on your networking skills – this has been greatly affected over the past two years. We would highly recommend trying to attend at least one in person event a quarter. Try to talk to new people at it too, give yourself a small objective before you attend. With purpose comes results! The 10 benefits of networking.

New Year, new career….

The dawn of a new year is traditionally a time when people review their careers, and as ever, we have a fantastic range of roles open at PeopleSource, the list below is not exhaustive.  If you don’t see what you are looking for, book a 30-minute meeting by emailing – contact@peoplesource.ie – for a time and date that suits you and let’s see if we can work together in 2023.
