April Newsletter 2021

Apr 30, 2021
Oooooh, it’s a long weekend, yes!  The country is beginning to open up!  Spring is well and truly in the air!  Year end is done!  All in all things are looking up, finally!  It’s been a busy month in terms of news and recruitment activity.  Thank you to everyone who took part in our annual Tipping Points Survey, the results are in and they are pretty interesting!  Peter O’Callaghan is our spotlight professional this month.  If you would like to participate in this do let me know, it tends to be one of our most ‘clicked’ article – we hope people get some nuggets of wise words from it.

Our latest roles are listed at the end – just FYI!

Interview Series…
We are delighted to hear from Peter O’Callaghan - having trained with Deloitte (Class of 2012), Peter has built a great career and is now Group Financial Controller of Bewley’s.  Here Peter talks about the tough decisions the pandemic has forced upon us and how mentors have moulded his outlook on business. Click here for the full interview.

In the news…
Much speculation has surrounded the government roadmap and thankfully we got clarity last night with An Taoiseach announcing many sectors opening the shutters again over the next few weeks/months. This will bring much relief for many businesses and employees who were put on the PUP scheme. Construction, non-essential retail, hairdressers, and increases to wedding capacities are allowed ranging throughout May while pubs and restaurants (outdoor dining) will reopen in June which I, for one, am looking forward to very much!

Looking towards a promotion?
Gary Cronin has written an article on
‘How to increase promotional opportunity whilst working from home’. We try to give you the best insight into our professional experience of working with hiring managers, market trends and reports/studies to back this up.  We’d love to get some feedback from you as a reader to see if this is what you may experience(d).

‘Tipping Point’ Annual Survey Results…
Thank you to everyone who participated again this year, now in year five!  We had over 2,000 completed responses and can share the raw findings here.  There are some remarkably interesting results.  Our aim now is to make some comparisons with previous results which we will bring to you over the coming months.  Thank you again for your participation it’s a big deal for us!

Leinster Society Bingo Night…
We were once again delighted to sponsor the ‘Music Bingo’ which was raising much needed funds for ‘Women’s Aid’. It was a great night that raised over €500.  We have sent out the Snack Farm and One4All prizes, which should be with you either already or early next week.  Enjoy!

For your enjoyment…
I love a bucket list to follow. Check out Discover Ireland’s “Irish Bucket List”. From staying on the Blasket Islands to drinking a pint in Ireland’s oldest pub in Athlone. 33 great suggestions from around the country that might take your fancy for this summer.

To Tinder or not to Tinder…
Are you on Tinder?  Have you been ghosted?  You’re not alone.
Here is an article (from 2018) about a guy who tracked his activity on Tinder for a month.  We loved the graph!

In sport…
What a great month for female Irish athletes! Rachel Blackmore set the racing world alight with her outstanding performances in both Cheltenham and the Aintree Grand National. Rachel’s story is an inspirational one of being knocked consistently but eventually getting her chance and taking it.

Leona Maguire has climbed the rankings in golf with her recent outstanding form getting her to tied second in Hawaii LPGA tour championship. Leona is one to look out for over the coming years! Orla O’Dwyer of Tipperary became the second Irish woman to win an AFLW (Australian Rules) championship with Brisbane Lions this month. A great opportunity for our GAA stars to showcase their skills in the semi-professional environment and really thriving.

Katie Taylor takes to the ring this Saturday as she faces her common foe, Natasha Jonas. The Bray superstar has dominated Women’s boxing for the last number of years, and we hope she can do it again on Saturday in which will be a tricky affair for Katie.

Competition time…
